Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, is out on 29 July in the UK.
We know that the newest addition to the franchise includes Stranger Things star Sadie Sink – though fans have been left in the dark about what her actual role in the movie may be.
All eager viewers have had to go on so far is a short clip, posted by the movie’s official account, in which the character manages to blurt out “What would you do if…” before getting censored. We also (helpfully) learn from the actor that her character “sits on a bench”.
But at last night’s premiere of the movie, Marvel Entertainment shared what they called a “one-word tease” from the star.
The caption overlaying the brand’s Instagram Reel reads, “Sadie Sink shares something you’ll only understand after watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day...”.
When asked to give a clue about the upcoming flick “besides Spider-Man,” she responded: “OK. Um... scrunchie”.
She then nodded knowingly.
In the comments, fans have speculated that she’ll play “Rachel Grey, daughter of Jean Grey,” or X-Men member Jean herself.
Others think she might star as Mary Jane Watson, a character who appears in the Spider-Man comics.
We know that early reviews have praised Sink’s performance.
But unless someone manages to make “scrunchie” and “bench” do a lot more work than we can, only time will tell what that role actually amounts to.
