Emmerdale’s Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) is truly vile, isn’t she?

While most of the village were already well aware of what a lying, conniving witch she truly is, there’ve been a few people who’ve given her the benefit of the doubt.

Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) for one, fell for Sadie’s cruel lies regarding her ‘relationship’ with Nicola’s recently deceased husband, Jimmy King (Nick Miles), and rather than rip her head off, she grieved alongside her.

While Sadie was only really in the village to locate Jimmy’s missing £150k, her unholy alliance with former toyboy, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), proved to be her undoing when he swiped the money for himself, and she was finally exposed as the viper she is when Nicola listened to Jimmy’s old voice notes.

While already having a number of run-ins with the Miligans, Caleb and Ruby (William Ash and Beth Cordingly) on her hunt for the missing loot, Ruby has shown Sadie nothing but kindness, which of course, Sadie will return, right?

Wrong. Sadie’s loyalty lies with Sadie and Sadie alone, and Ruby is soon to become just another pawn in yet another wicked game, when Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) enlists her devious services in his mission to destroy them for good.

While Joe’s initial suggestion is simply that Sadie spy on the couple, Sadie’s certain her feminine wiles are the ticket to success, and despite Joe’s assertations that they’re a strong, solid couple, Sadie reckons seducing him will be a piece of cake.

The only problem? Everybody in the village thinks she’s an evil cow.

Luckily for Sadie, Nicola’s best friend, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) plays right into her perfectly manicured hands by unleashing a verbal smackdown on her in the middle of the Woolpack just after she begs Ruby to hear her out.

In the aftermath, Sadie spins a gutting tale about a previous relationship in which she was controlled and soon, Ruby is eating out of the palm of her hand, completely that the same hand is planning on ruining her life forever.

Later in the week, Ruby offers Sadie a job with her wine business, and begins to tell her the intricacies of snagging bougie, high-end clients in business meetings, even suggesting that Sadie accompany her on a meeting later that day.

Sadie expertly begins to dig, though, and the topic of Ruby’s dad comes to the fore.

Viewers will remember that Ruby murdered her dad, Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day) after the hideous abuser had been attacked by various other villagers throughout the day as his true evil seeped through his surface-level grandfatherly charm.

As Sadie relates, with her own father being dead, Ruby is quick to remind her that Anthony isn’t dead, simply living in Spain, her unshakeable cover story still very much in tact.

Sadie switches tack, trying to relate via her own estranged relationship with her mum, but as she begins to press about what actually happened between father and daughter, Caleb intervenes.

Unnerved by Sadie’s continued presence and in a far less forgiving mood than Ruby, he’s less than impressed when she tells him that Sadie will be working with her going forward, and starts to lay down the law.

Of course, that won’t work with someone as feisty as Ruby, and she’s undeterred – Sadie has nowhere to go and despite Caleb’s protestations that he can see her lingering around forever, Ruby is resolute: Sadie’s staying.

Caleb says that should Sadie put a singular toe out of line, she’ll be gone, but Ruby merely kisses him, his attempts to lay down the law falling slightly flat – but with Ruby clearly enamoured by her new bestie, is it only a matter of time before she hands Sadie the scythe?
