Robert De Niro made a surprise cameo during Jimmy Kimmel's first show back from his suspensionRobert De Niro channeled his iconic mob movie roles on Jimmy Kimmel’s return to late-night TV on Tuesday with a mock video call that skewered both Donald Trump and Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr, whose attacks on the comedian over his comments about Charlie Kirk were widely seen as key to ABC’s decision to suspend the show.
During the skit, Kimmel pretended to dial into a video call with Carr, only to be greeted instead by De Niro, who claimed to be the FCC’s new boss.
In the sketch, the two-time Oscar winner was first seen sending a menacing message about The View host and Trump critic Whoopi Goldberg, prompting Kimmel to suggest that Trump’s FCC was using “mob tactics to suppress free speech”.
“What the fuck did you just say to me?” De Niro shot back.
“I didn’t mean any offence. You know you can’t curse, we’ll get fined by the FCC,” Kimmel replied.
“I am the FCC. I can say whatever the fuck I want,” De Niro declared, before later mock-telling Kimmel that he was “gently suggesting that you gently shut the fuck up.”
