The injury blows keep coming for the Minnesota Vikings.
Top running back Aaron Jones is set to be placed on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
Jones suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss against the Atlanta Falcons and was later ruled out of the game.
By virtue of being on IR, Jones will have to miss at least four games.
The Vikings are also expected to be without quarterback J.J. McCarthy for two to four weeks after he sprained his ankle against Atlanta.
Jordan Mason, who has 24 carries and 98 yards over the first two games, is slated to replace Jones as the team’s lead rusher.
Minnesota also signed free agent Cam Akers to the practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He suited up for 12 games with the Vikings last season.
Jones, in his first year with Minnesota last season after signing a one-year contract, rushed for a career-high 1,138 yards and five touchdowns as the Vikings advanced to the playoffs.
The Vikings re-signed Jones to a two-year deal prior to this season.
Jones was a Green Bay Packer from 2017-23, making one Pro Bowl appearance in 2020.
The Vikings (1-1) host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
