Kevin Mandolese is going to get a shot to earn a job in his home province.
The goaltender, from Blainville, Que., has signed a professional tryout offer with the Montreal Canadiens, hockey insider Frank Seravalli reported Wednesday.
Mandolese, 25, has played three career NHL games — all with the Ottawa Senators in 2022-23. He went 1-2 with a 3.29 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
The Colorado Avalanche acquired Mandolese in a trade with the Senators last summer. He spent his entire season with Colorado’s AHL affiliate, going 11-6 with a 2.87 GAA and .903 save percentage.
The Senators selected Mandolese in the sixth round (157th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.
There doesn’t seem to be an easy path to a job in Montreal, with the Canadiens having goaltenders Samuel Montembeault, Jakub Dobes and Kaapo Kahkonen in camp, along with 2023 third-round pick Jacob Fowler.
