After a viral dispute over Harrison Bader’s home run ball, a young Phillies fan, Lincoln, left LoanDepot Park with pretty cool birthday presents. From thinking he’d take home a souvenir to meeting the man who hit it. The internet is still caught up in Friday night’s frenzy. Both clubs tried to make it up to the kid. With the Marlins sending a representative to hand the kid a bag of goodies, the Phillies went above and beyond. They personally invited Lincoln to meet Bader himself. These gestures drew a wave of reactions, including praise from a former Red Sox legend.
The incident took place in the top of the fourth inning when Bader hit a solo home run that landed in the stands. Out of several fans, including an unidentified woman now dubbed as “Phillies Karen,” scrambled to pick up the ball.
However, when a man was quick enough to grab the ball to hand it over to his son, she confronted him aggressively until he eventually had to give it to her.

Later, Bader spent a few moments with the kid and gifted him an autographed bat outside the Phillies’ clubhouse. This gesture exploded online, and former Red Sox legend Jeff Frye was equally wowed by Bader’s touching deed. Dropping a one-word reaction publicly, he stated, “Priceless,” while sharing a picture featuring Bader and Lincoln’s interaction.
Frye, the former MLB second baseman, played for the Boston Red Sox from 1996 to 1997 and 1999 to 2000, totaling four seasons. In the span of 10 days, this is the second such incident that has displayed an ugly spate of moments in the US sports world.
The first similar incident took place at a recent US Open game. Piotr Szczerek, the CEO of the Polish company Drogbruk, appeared to slyly snatch a signed cap given to a child by tennis player Kamil Majchrzak. While some are comparing that incident to this one, others are backlashing at “Phillies Karen.”
Who exactly is ‘Phillies Karen’?
A few hours after the incident, the Phillies circle was desperate to know all about this lady. First, a rumor spread that her name was Cheryl Richardson-Wagner. Some time later, a woman with the same name—Richardson-Wagner—caught wind of the situation. She clarified on Facebook that “I’m NOT the crazy Philly Mom.” She claimed to be a Boston Red Sox fan. “I’m a Red Sox fan. Apparently, I am trending on Twitter. I wonder if I’ll get apologies from all of these people when the real culprit is finally found.”
Then, there were rumors spread across that claimed the woman is identified as Leslie-Ann Kravitz. Kravitz happens to be an administrator in the Hammonton, New Jersey, school district. Now, since no one wants to be associated with the woman, the district issued a statement denying these claims.
They stated that she has never worked for them. “The woman identified on social media as ‘Phillies Karen’ is not, and has never been, an employee of the Hammonton Public Schools located in Hammonton, New Jersey.”
Further, they even took it a step further, getting in a dig at the Phillies. Karen in their statement. “Anybody who works for our school district, attended as a student, or lives in our community would obviously have caught the ball bare-handed in the first place. Avoiding the entire situation.” For now, at least for the time being, the Phillies nation will not let it go this easy. It’s only a matter of time till they dig in more and find her real identity.
