Reader advocates for Palestine and the victims of genocide

I welcome the move of the UK, Canada and others in finally recognising the state of Palestine (Metro, Mon) – and joining more than 150 others that have done so.

It’s a small step in recognising and humanising Palestinians.

Can we please have some humane language regardless of who the victims are – and to treat the loss of life as equally tragic as another? Az, London

Reader sees recognition of Palestine as a ‘disgrace’

What an absolute disgrace that the UK government has decided to recognise Palestine as a state. It clearly shows this government is bowing down to its Middle East masters in the Gulf.

The Labour Party is going against everything that is decent and honourable in this island of ours.

Shame on you all – it will come back to haunt you! Nick Smith, by email

Reader says conflict in Ukraine is ‘greater concern’ than Palestine

As much as Sir Keir Starmer wants to recognise the Palestinian state, the conflict in the Ukraine region is the greater concern. Keith, London

Reader jabs at Starmer

Somebody please provide Sir Keir with an umbrella and a piece of paper saying Peace In Our Time. Andrew Turek, by email

Reader says state of Palestine should not be on ‘Israel’s doorstep’

The Palestinians should have a state of their own for sure but not next door to Israel.

A state should be found for them away from the border with Israel – somewhere in North Africa or the Middle East – but not on Israel’s doorstep. Richard Farrar, by email

England’s women’s rugby team are, again, ‘showing the men how it’s done’

England’s women’s rugby team, the Red Roses, have reached a World Cup final, once again showing the men how it’s done.

They beat France 35-17 at the weekend to set up a final against Canada on Saturday.

Perhaps the outpouring of patriotism for their campaign with flags everywhere will have spurred them on. Neil Dance, Birmingham

Reader applauds the Lib Dems

I must commend the Liberal Democrats for following the wise words of Napoleon Bonaparte: ‘Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.’

When you look at the Tories and Labour, we do not have enough room to list those mistakes. And now Lib Dem leader Ed Davey has told Reform UK leader Nigel Farage home truths, saying he is no patriot.

Keep it up and the Lib Dems could be the official opposition in four years. Robert Boston, Kent

Reader points out another hit by Trevor Horn

Regarding your profile on Trevor Horn of The Buggles, who was also the music producer for Frankie Goes To Hollywood etc (Metro, Thu). He also co-wrote Hand Held In Black And White, which was a hit by Dollar (yes really). Gary O’Brien, Birmingham

Reader has the chills

I have to disagree with Bethany (MetroTalk, Thu) who says it’s still warm despite being autumn.

I have been wearing two pullovers to work since mid-August. Now, I’ve added two scarves.

My colleagues dress as though it’s permanently summer.

The voices of all heat-lovers should be heard. John Bradley, via email
