Reader comments on 'virtue signalling' at Coldplay concert

Your piece on Coldplay fans booing as lead singer Chris Martin tried to ‘send love’ to Charlie Kirk’s family after the right-wing political activist was shot dead, had a wonderful online statement from someone who said they would have ‘walked out’ if they had been at the Wembley show (Metro, Mon). That must surely be the zenith of virtue signalling. Hilarious! Paul Wilkinson, London

Reader slams Labour source who praised recently resigned senior aide

Regarding No.10 director of strategy Paul Ovenden quitting over sexually explicit texts about ex-Labour MP Diane Abbott (Metro, Tue).

The article quoted one Labour source describing the senior aide as ‘the best brain in the Labour Party’. If that’s true, there really is no hope for it at all. Patricia Sorenti, Feltham

Is state visit from US President another example of Starmer’s ‘poor judgement’?

Given Lord Peter Mandelson has been sacked as Britain’s US ambassador over his relationship with paedophile sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, why are we having a state visit today by another great mate of Epstein? Very poor judgement.

Also, the far right rioted on Saturday to ‘defend women and girls’ among other things. Does that include British women like Diane Abbott? M Reader, London

Reader says weekend’s far-right protests are a ‘demonstration of depair’

The Unite The Kingdom protest in London on Saturday was the population’s desperate attempt to draw attention to urgent problems exacerbated by government policy.

For a long time, Brits have felt out in the cold in their home country, with migrants of greater concern to Labour than those who brought them to power.

Are Sir Keir Starmer and co going to continue as they are, even after such an overt demonstration of despair? Brian Dornan, Bangor

Reader flags Reform’s hypocrisy

It’s interesting that Reform UK are supporting the Union Jack flag brigade, given that Reform-led councils have made a point of removing LGBT+ Pride flags from their buildings.

The message couldn’t be clearer – Reform think we should be proud of being British and we absolutely should not be proud of anything else about ourselves. Caitlyn, Beeston

Less is more?

I’m forming an organisation called Chaos (Campaign against Hyperbole And Overuse of Superlatives). I’m moved to act because mildly interesting things get described as ‘amazing’, believable things as ‘incredible’. I saw a TV chef take a bite from his own treacle tart once and describe it as ‘beyond perfect’. Can anyone top that?

A fruitful harvest

What an amazing harvest we’re having – let us not waste any fruit and veg. Don’t throw out that old fridge or freezer – they make storage for apples and potatoes etc. They’re dry, frost and rat-proof and remain at a constant temperature.

We have one in a shed. Not plugged in of course! Bramley apples will keep till the end of April. Janiece, Brancepeth
