PS5 special edition consoles and accessories

Some PlayStation fans think that PS5 special / limited edition consoles and accessories pale in comparison to what we’ve seen in previous generations. The conversation began as preorders for Ghost of Yotei-themed PS5/PS5 Pro consoles and accessories went live last week.

Do PS5 special edition consoles pale in comparison to previous generations?

Over on Reddit, a user made a slideshow of all the limited edition PS5s and console covers we’ve received thus far, out of which only two seem to have been well-received: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and PlayStation 30th Anniversary Edition.

There are some votes for the Ghost of Yotei console, but players unanimously agree that LeBron James-inspired accessories (pictured above), Monster Hunter Wilds, and Final Fantasy XVI-themed covers were the weakest offerings.

“We had so many cool PS4s in comparison,” one player opined. “And this gen you can literally switch out the plates, yet… we have six,” another concurred.

“Outside of the 30th [anniversary edition], these are all awful,” reads one of the more negative comments. “Same with their controllers. By far the coolest one was… Concord,” they added sarcastically.

I’ve got to say that I agree. I did pick up the Spider-Man 2 plates, which I’m still rocking on my one ‘n only launch PS5. I do wish that there was a wider selection of special edition covers, though, and I’m baffled that Sony decided not to release more covers for the launch model and the PS5 Pro.

Oh well, AliExpress for the win!
