However, they agreed on one crucial condition: they would only use Streep’s voice if it was authentically hers, not an artificial intelligence recreation. They reached out to the acclaimed actress, and she quickly agreed to record a single line for Project Hail Mary. As Weir told Forbes, “I love how it ended up being Meryl Streep pretending to be a computer that is pretending to be Meryl Streep.”

Project Hail Mary, based on Weir’s 2021 novel, follows Ryland Grace. It follows Ryland as he awakens on an interstellar spacecraft. He has no memory of his mission or how he arrived there.
