The funeral for Lady Gabriella Kingston’s husband Thomas Kingston took place today, Buckingham Palace announced.

Around 140 friends and family of the financier, including Prince William, gathered at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace in London on Tuesday, followed by a reception in St James’s Palace.

The Prince of Wales, the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra were among those present, alongside Lady Gabriella and Mr Kingston’s family.

The King – Lady Gabriella’s second cousin – who is being treated for cancer, and the Queen, who had an engagement at Buckingham Palace, were not present.

Mr Kingston, 45, died on February 25 at his parents’ home in the Cotswolds from a ‘catastrophic head injury’ and a gun was found near his body, the opening of his inquest heard.

Mr Kingston, known as Tom, and his wife Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, were ‘happy and chatty’ at an event days before his death, friends have said.

His sudden death in late February reportedly plunged the Royal Family into a state of shock.

A friend of the couple, who spoke to them at a party held at the National Gallery last Wednesday told the Daily Mail: ‘They seemed happy and positive as ever. Ella was particularly chatty.’

Lady Gabriella paid tribute to her financier husband in a joint statement with his family, describing him as an ‘exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him’.
