Prime Video is officially moving forward with another show based on the popular Fallout video game franchise.
What do we know about Fallout Shelter?
The Amazon-owned streamer is developing Fallout Shelter, a competition show inspired by its popular post-apocalyptic drama series. The show will share its name with a 2015 clicker video game that centered around players building and effectively managing their own Vault.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the competition show will feature “a series of escalating challenges, strategic dilemmas, and moral crossroads [in which] contestants must prove their ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience as they compete for safety, power, and ultimately a huge cash prize.”
Fallout Shelter will be set inside the bomb-proof Vault-Tec vaults seen in the popular series. Studio Lambert and Fallout scripted series producer Kilter Films are producing Fallout Shelter in association with Amazon MGM Studios and Bethesda Game Studios.
Fallout Shelter marks Prime Video’s latest attempt at crafting a competition show around a well-known brand. Previous hits include 007: Road to a Million, based on the James Bond franchise, and Beast Games, hosted by Mr. Beast and inspired by his viral competition YouTube videos.
The Fallout franchise was launched in 1997 with its eponymous video game. Since then, the franchise has added five more major releases, as well as a number of spin-off video games. After plans for a feature based on the games fell apart, Prime Video announced a television series based on the property in 2020.
Created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Fallout is set more than two centuries after the Great War of 2077, an apocalyptic nuclear exchange between the United States and China. The series stars Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean, a Vault 33 dweller.
The first season, released in April 2024 to critical acclaim, follows Lucy as she embarks into the dangerously unforgiving wasteland of a devastated Los Angeles to look for her father (Kyle MacLachlan), who has been kidnapped by wasteland raiders.
The second season is currently airing and is set to conclude on February 4, 2026. A third season is in development. Prime Video has not shared release windows for Fallout Season 3 or Fallout Shelter at this time.
