Supermarkets have long had the monopoly on meal deals, with Tesco being the go-to for many up and down the UK.

But Pret-a-Manger is now trying to get a slice of the action, as the coffee and sandwich chain has just launched its own version.

Priced between £6 and £7, the Pret meal deal is being trialled in 70 stores nationwide and includes ‘any bread-based sandwich’, crisps and a drink.

The two diferent prices will be tested in different stores, to see how customers respond.

For context, £6 is pricier than the Waitrose meal deal, which currently costs £5, and much higher than Asda’s new £3.74 one, which is the UK’s cheapest supermarket meal deal without requiring a loyalty card.

A similar deal is also going to be running at Pret at breakfast time, where customers can get a coffee and croissant for £5.

The chain has also brought back its popular Lobster roll, which costs £8.95 and announced it’s going to be opening its very first drive-thru location in early 2026.

Pret chief executive, Pano Christou told the Sunday Times that a handful of drive-thru locations are in the works, which will likely be operated by a franchise partner at motorway services.

This comes as Pano revealed he’s planning to target 1,500 more stores in the UK as part of a major expansion that will include hundreds of travel locations.

Currently Pret has around 500 locations across the UK, with stores also in places like the US, France, Greece, Canada, Switzerland, Hong Kong and South Africa.

What do customers think?

In comments on TikTok reacting to the meal deal news, people were divided as to whether the £6 price tag was actually a ‘good deal’.

@pacoca.cos said: ‘SIX GREAT BRITISH POUNDS, that’s not a meal deal anymore, just a meal.’

While @esmenotyou asked: ‘What about a sweet treat?’

Similarly, @monsterenergyismefr wrote: ‘Lol, that’s a bit expensive.’

But not everyone felt this way, @rotin_bazar thought it was ‘reasonable’, saying: ‘thought it would be more expensive. Love a baguette from Pret.’

And @saffiavenus agreed: ‘For Pret that’s good.’

@burner0938 added: ‘This is a great deal considering supermarekt meal deal sandwiches taste like s**t and their price isn’t even far off. I’d rather pay a little more to get a quality deal. Go Pret!’
