Presley Gerber’s death being investigated as suspected overdose, police confirm

Police are investigating Presley Gerber’s death as a suspected overdose.

The 27-year-old model is the only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, while his sister is model and actress Kaia Gerber.

His death was confirmed today by a representative for the family, who requested privacy on their behalf while they grieve during this ‘very difficult and painful time’.

Stars including Paris Hilton, Brooklyn Beckham and his wife, Nicola Peltz, have since paid tribute, writing that they are ‘heartbroken’.

Gerber was found dead at a rehabilitation centre in Los Angeles, with TMZ reporting that he had been staying at a separate house on the grounds with roommates.

Now, a spokesperson for the Santa Monica Police Department has confirmed to Metro that officers responded to calls of a ‘possible overdose’ at 9.35am on Sunday in the 1000 block of Berkeley Street.

‘Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was deceased,’ their statement added.

‘The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has identified the individual as Presley Gerber, 27.

He was pronounced dead at 9.45am.

‘SMPD detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose.’

At this time, there is ‘no indication of foul play’.

Gerber’s official cause and manner of death are yet to be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, and the investigation remains ongoing.

In recent years, Gerber spoke publicly about his mental health and drug addiction issues in the hopes of helping others. He experienced depression and had recently been taking medication for night terrors and panic attacks.

His family was ‘tight-knit’ and supportive of his recovery efforts, with Cindy, 60, leaving a sweet comment on one of his Instagram posts just months ago.

In March, Gerber posted from a treatment centre in Mexico. His caption said he was ‘terrified’ ahead of undergoing a controversial treatment, a pre-ibogaine flood dose, which aims to achieve a ‘complete interruption of chemical dependency’ and trigger ‘massive brain repair’.

He added: ‘Praying it’s the last time I have to come back.’

Cindy commented, ‘You are a warrior! Walked thru the fire to find yourself! So proud! 🙏’, to which he replied: ‘love you mama!!! 💜☮️’

Sister Kaia, 25, whose name he had tattooed on his arm, also wrote: ‘that’s my brother I am so damn proud.’

His father added: ‘I’m so proud of you and your courage. Facing what’s hard takes real strength and watching you find your way back to yourself is everything. I love you so much❤️’

Just last month, actress Kaia spoke to Vogue about her brother’s ‘decade-long struggle with drug addiction’.

‘When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,’ she said.

‘I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.’

Gerber himself admitted his depression was ‘such a big part of [his] life’ and a ’24/7 job’.

Appearing on the Studio 22 podcast in 2023, he expressed that he wanted to be open, adding: ‘Whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do.’

Gerber declared that ‘helping people’ was his ultimate goal, telling listeners there was ‘no judgement’ if they are ‘struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body’.

‘I’ve seen a lot of stuff, and I’ve learned a lot of things,’ he reflected. ‘What I hope I can do is have made the mistakes for some other people, so they don’t have to make the same mistakes that I made.’
