A Coronation Street character has left the show again following a showdown in a prison.

Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty), the woman who put Gary Windass (Mikey North) in hospital last year, returned to our screens after Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) was sent behind bars.

Debbie pleaded guilty to crashing a car during Corriedale in January. The beloved character decided to take the fall for Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) the actual culprit. At the time, we thought she was trying to protect her brother, but it was later revealed Debbie was preventing her son from going to prison.

Because of Debbie’s dementia, she was assigned another inmate to look out for her, which turned out to be Lou.

The two characters are completely different, but ended up getting along after a little while.

In tonight’s episode, Lou found Debbie in her cell panicking. She had lost her journal, which contains important pieces of information about her loved ones that she’s at risk of forgetting.

Debbie began to wonder if an officer had stolen it, and enlisted help from Lou to try and get it back.

As Debbie approached the officer, Lou and another inmate, played by Emmerdale’s Kelli Hollis, began to fight.

A while later, Debbie discovered from the officer that Lou has now been sent to solitary confinement because of the fight she got into. Debbie felt awful.

To further increase her guilt, Debbie later found her journal and realised she had just misplaced it in her cell.

Debbie was suddenly reminded of the fact Lou was now all alone as a result of a situation that was only created because she wanted to look out for her new friend.

In future episodes, Debbie will appeal against her case, meaning there’s a very high chance she will be released from prison and allowed to return home.

But will events in tonight’s instalment impact how Debbie’s appeal plays out?
