It was the morning of Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson)’s wedding on Emmerdale on Monday (September 15), and there was a lot going on.
On the bride’s side of the family we were treated to the reappearance of Kim Tate (Claire King) – back in the village after a short business trip. Dressed to the nines (shoes from Italy, of course), she was ready to forgive and forget the fact that Gabby had previously betrayed her by telling Moira (Natalie J Robb) about her and Joe (Ned Porteous)’s plans to rip Moira off.
In a touching show of affection, Kim told Gabby that she really wanted to be at her wedding – and, what’s more, she told Gabby she loves her, and Gabby reciprocated. It was a beautiful start to what should have been Gabby’s perfect day.
Kim wasn’t the only unexpected arrival, though. That accolade has to go to Gabby’s mum, Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles). Bernice left the village in disgrace a few years ago after getting the B&B into financial difficulty and taking out a huge loan in her sister Nicola (Nicola Wheeler)’s name, and Gabby had given up hope of her turning up for the wedding.
Unlike Kim, Bernice wasn’t really there to see her daughter getting married. In fact, quite the opposite. In front of Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy), Kim and Arthur (Alfie Clarke), Bernice cautioned Gabby not to get married at all.

Was it the worry of Gabby having to drink from the Dingle welly? Apparently not, and we didn’t really find out what Bernice’s specific concern was. She just strongly hinted that Gabby was keeping a secret which would change everything.
So Gabby headed off to find Vinny and talk to him through a door (mustn’t let him see the bride in her wedding dress on the big day) about her concerns.
Vinny immediately thought her concerns were his concerns, and we know that what he’s been concerned about for some time now is that he’s very confused about his sexuality after surprising himself by being attracted to his friend Kammy (Shebz Miah).
So Gabby’s words made him sweat even more than he was sweating already, given that he’s also dealing with threats from a man called Mike (Macaulay Cooper), who previously savagely beat him up and stole a lot of money from him. Mike has threatened to play Gabby a tape of Vinny talking about his doubts and confusion about marrying her if he doesn’t cough up even more money.

He was so certain that Gabby had guessed what was going on with him that it came as a massive surprise when she said instead that she wanted him to adopt her son Thomas after the wedding so they would be a proper family.
She told Vinny that he was ‘perfect.’ This made him cry, though he might have been slightly less moved if he’d have seen the tension on Gabby’s face as she left. Her heart is clearly a bit less settled about a future with Vinny than her words had suggested.
But Gabby’s apparent faith in him made Vinny want to do the right thing. He knew he couldn’t let Mike’s threats derail his life, so he went to the police station. Looking strained and troubled, he told the officer he was there to report a crime.
How will this action affect what happens next? Will the wedding go ahead? Will Mike make an appearance? Will Vinny admit his struggles to Gabby? And what’s the secret she’s hiding?
