PlayStation 5 Getting Classic Nintendo Exclusive RPGs

PlayStation fans are getting a pair of iconic 1990s RPGs on the PS5, with both classic adventure games arriving in a new bundle. Taito and Clear River Games have announced the collection, with Clear River Games publishing it in the West.

Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga is coming to PlayStation 5 next year. The collection includes Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (1993) and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (1996). Both games were originally released on the Super Nintendo.

“A collection of two of the fondest remembered JRPGs of the 1990s, whose moving storylines and memorable soundtracks touched the hearts of players around the world,” the publisher stated.

What can PS5 owners expect from Lufia I & II?

PlayStation 5 owners will get both games in one package. The store listing says the games are “enhanced for modern play.” However, not many details were shared about the latest upgrades.

The first game, Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, follows a descendant of the legendary hero Maxim and his childhood friend Lufia as they attempt to stop the returning Sinistrals. Their journey takes a turn when Lufia is revealed to be Erim, the Sinistral of Death, but she breaks her fate and helps defeat the villains before being reborn as a human.

Meanwhile, the second game serves as a prequel. It follows Maxim, who is on a journey to stop the newly emerged Sinistrals. Joined by his wife Selan and their allies, Maxim travels to the floating Doom Island. They defeat the villains but tragically sacrifice their lives to guide the island away from destroying the world below. As per the story, the second game in the collection takes place before the first.

The collection will also arrive on Switch and Switch 2, as well as PC via Steam. While Taito and Clear River Games have confirmed a 2027 release window, an exact date is yet to be unveiled. Pricing and additional details about the enhancements have also not been announced.
