Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is finally here, and it brings Cillian Murphy’s acclaimed character Tommy Shelby back to the screen for a conclusion to the story that has spanned over a decade. Centered on Tommy and his son, Duke (Barry Keoghan), the new film features multiple major plotlines, intense fight sequences, and a key character death. The question many viewers have is whether Tommy Shelby survives at the end of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Is Tommy Shelby really dead after Peaky Blinders movie?
Yes, the new Peaky Blinders movie ends with the death of Tommy Shelby.
In Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Tommy Shelby begins as a reclusive retired gangster reflecting on the violence and consequences of his past. Meanwhile, his son Duke leads the Peaky Blinders with increasing brutality. The story is set during the Birmingham Blitz.
In the film, Duke becomes involved in a conspiracy to flood Britain with millions in counterfeit currency forged by the Nazis. The scheme threatens serious consequences and could effectively cost Britain the war.
Kaulo (Rebecca Ferguson) convinces Tommy to return and save Duke from his own ambition. She promises to help him find peace if he does so. Tommy arrives too late to prevent his sister’s execution but manages to reunite with his son. They later devise a plan to destroy the fake currency.
Kaulo tells Duke that he and his father will fight side by side, but “in the fog,” Duke will kill Tommy to become Rom Baro, the Gypsy King. Kaulo intends for Duke to kill Tommy, which she believes will also grant him the peace he seeks.
The plan to destroy the counterfeit currency succeeds, and they eliminate several Nazi agents. However, Beckett (Tim Roth) proves to be a formidable adversary. He gets into a car and drives toward Tommy. He shoots Tommy twice, but Tommy manages to shoot Beckett in the head.
The car speeds toward Tommy and appears ready to crush him, but Duke tackles him out of the way. The gunshot wounds Tommy sustains are ultimately fatal. Tommy convinces Duke to put him out of his misery, prompting Duke to shoot him.
Tommy’s remaining family and friends gather to cremate his body in a red Gypsy carriage. Kaulo then gives Duke the book Tommy was writing, titled “The Immortal Man.”
