Peacemaker Escapes Death in Season 2 Episode 5 Trailer

The trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 5 is finally here, and the recently released promo promises an even bumpier ride ahead for John Cena’s titular superhero. The trailer not only promises a much-awaited confrontation between Cena’s Christopher Smith and Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., but also hints at how their meeting will shape Peacemaker’s journey in the subsequent episodes.

The promotional snippet for Episode 5, titled “Back to the Suture,” opens with Rick Flag Sr. and his squad patiently waiting for Chris Smith’s arrival in order to eliminate him. Dedicated viewers of the series will remember that Cena’s character is only walking into the ambush at the behest of Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt, who, at the urging of Rick Flag Sr., called Smith to meet up at a public location in Episode 4.

While it remains unclear if Harcourt has actually betrayed her friend, Smith will end up in Rick Flag Sr.’s crosshairs due to her actions, with Judomaster even taking a shot at the vigilante, who seems to save himself by using a bystander as a shield. The Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 5 trailer then cuts to Michael Rooker’s Red St. Wild, who remains in pursuit of Eagly.

In a callback to 2021’s The Suicide Squad, the teaser also gives a glimpse at the funeral of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag Jr., after which the scene shifts to Grillo’s character having a face-off with his son’s killer. While Smith tries his best to reason with the vengeful Rick Flag Sr., he soon realizes that redemption won’t come to him that easily. The Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 5 promo ends with Smith and Eagly approaching the pocket dimension, possibly in an attempt to leave their chaotic lives behind for good.

Directed by Alethea Jones, Episode 5 of Peacemaker Season 2 will hit HBO Max on September 18 at 9 PM ET and 6 PM PT.
