PC Swirling forced to intervene as young Emmerdale villager gets set to commit a crime

April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) is on a slippery slope in Emmerdale, having got herself fast in the clutches of drug lord Ray Walters (Joe Absolom).

She’d originally tried to get Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) away from working for the likes of Ray, who’s been manipulating Dylan into remaining on the wrong side of the law for him, but when it became clear they couldn’t afford a flat without the drugs money, April encouraged him to go back.

When Ray pressured Dylan into doing a job that was too high risk for him, April stepped up and offered to give it ago.

But the trusting teen had no idea that Ray had arranged for her to get robbed at knife point, meaning she now owes him £2,000, and just like that, she now has no escape.

Now that April is on Ray’s payroll, he’s got many more jobs lined up for her. The latest sees her heading to a car park to do the latest drop.

This time things seem much smoother; she meets the lad she’s meant to meet and is ready to do her bit and run.

It’s a relief after her first two drops ended up in her seemingly losing the drugs (AKA Ray set her up, but she has no idea). But before she can celebrate her win, she’s caught by Swirling (Andy Moore).

April uses her good girl image to try and cover what she was really doing, but PC Swirling insists on taking her back to the village. She’s dropped off in the police car to a baffled and worried Rhona (Zoe Henry).

April has bigger problems than her conscience lying to Rhona – Ray tells Dylan he has doubts April can keep quiet, which is a terrifying place for her to be, even if she doesn’t know it yet.

When Dylan later sees April, he digs into what went wrong, then relays Ray’s concerns. Instead of fear, April is left feeling angry that she’s even having to work for Ray.

Added to the fact she hasn’t actually been able to do one successful drop yet, she is not a happy bunny. She’s also incredibly naïve to the danger she’s in.

Dylan is annoyed and mentions what they’re doing it for, causing April to storm out.

Ray later texts Dylan and Dylan plans to go to him to smooth things over on April’s behalf, but instead April confronts her ‘boss’ and demands their debt be expunged.

But matters escalate quickly when Ray refuses to let Dylan in the car and takes off with April on her own.
