Patrick Muldoon, best known for his work on Days Of Our Lives and Melrose Place, has died aged 57.

The actor passed away Sunday (April 19) morning, according to TMZ. The cause of death was reported to be a heart attack. Muldoon’s sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, told the outlet that he had collapsed while taking a shower in his Beverly Hills home. His partner, Miriam Rothbart, discovered him shortly after and called paramedics, who treated him at the scene but were unable to revive him.

The star originated the role of Austin Reed on soap opera Days Of Our Lives. He played the role from 1992-95, and again between 2011-12, with actor Austin Peck playing the role in the years in between. He also played the villain Richard Hart on Melrose Place, appearing from seasons three to five.

Alison Sweeney, his co-star on Days Of Our Lives, paid tribute on X. “This is such heartbreaking news” she wrote. “Pat was a rare kind of person—brilliantly talented, endlessly kind, and generous in spirit. I was so lucky to have worked with him when I first started at Days, he made me feel at ease right away. He brought his unique charm and humour to work every day. A truly gifted guy, and one who will be profoundly missed.”
