2026 has been a great year for movies so far, and while The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has taken the crown as the biggest success story at the box office, it had to climb past Project Hail Mary to do it. Project Hail Mary is a new space sci-fi epic starring Ryan Goslingthat was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the same duo that is responsible for the Spider-Verse movies. The film opened with immaculate scores of 94% from critics and 96% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and while it’s $200 million budget set a high bar to clear, it grossed over $515 million at the box office with more coming in each day. The film is already the biggest ever for Amazon MGM.
