It can take time for a filmmaker to find their style, but Tim Burton nailed his early out of the gate with his second feature film. Released in 1988, Beetlejuice was the director's first movie not based on pre-established IP — Burton's directorial debut was Pee-wee's Big Adventure — and was a huge success both with critics and at the box office, raking in almost $75 million opposite a modest $15 budget.
