Assassin’s Creed Origins‘ Bayek actor revealed the one thing Netflix’s upcoming live-action series must nail to win over fans. The franchise veteran shared his thoughts on what the adaptation should prioritize to avoid repeating past mistakes.

OG Assassin’s Creed star reveals the one thing Netflix series must get right

Abubakar Salim, who voiced Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins, told ScreenRant that the Netflix live-action series must respect the franchise’s core identity to succeed.

The actor stressed that the adaptation should prioritize the gaming community’s attachment to the source material rather than reinventing what already works. Salim believes the historical settings and main storylines should remain central to the show. He acknowledged that television storytelling differs from games but argued that the fundamentals need no overhaul.

“You just have to think of the community that brought it to life in the first place. You have to give them what they loved at the beginning,” Salim said. He added, “It’s one of those where it’s so easy to try and innovate on it when it doesn’t really need innovation. It just needs its core, which is the creed itself, the historical elements of it, and the core modern-day stuff as well.”

The actor also highlighted why television suits the franchise’s narrative style. Players spend extensive hours with Assassin’s Creed characters, and episodic storytelling offers a similar pace.

“They live in this stuff, they breathe this stuff. So get them hyped, get them excited, but also tell a really good story,” Salim explained. He noted, “In the games as well, you’re spending hours upon hours upon hours with these characters. In TV, you’re spending hours upon hours upon hours of these characters as well, and that’s why it works.”

Roberto Patino and David Wiener serve as creators of the upcoming Netflix adaptation. The cast includes Toby Wallace, Lola Petticrew, Zachary Hart, and Laura Marcus.

No official release date exists yet, though speculation points to late 2026 or early 2027.
