Mortal Kombat 2’s Cole Young Actor Breaks Silence on Shocking Fate & Return

Cole Young’s fate in Mortal Kombat II has been addressed by the character’s actor. He recently reflected on the character’s fate in the sequel and revealed when he first learned about the storyline. He also discussed speculation surrounding a potential return to the franchise, sparking anticipation amongst fans.

Lewis Tan on Cole Young’s fate in Mortal Kombat 2

Lewis Tan has spoken about Cole Young’s shocking fate in Mortal Kombat II, confirming that he was aware of the character’s death. 

During a recent interview, the actor was asked when he found out Cole would be killed off in the film. He responded, “Earlier on.” When asked whether Cole could potentially return in Mortal Kombat III, Tan appeared to shut down the possibility entirely. “No, I don’t think so,” he said before adding, “I think Cole is done (via Vulture).”

Tan also reflected on the role Cole Young played in the franchise overall. Discussing the direction of the two films, the actor explained, “The first movie was a starting point. I like to look at it as a prequel to getting into the tournament. Then the second movie goes straight into the tournament.”

Tan also acknowledged the criticism surrounding the original character’s inclusion in the rebooted franchise. According to the actor, “there [are] a lot of people who are hardcore game fans who didn’t think that it was needed.”

Tan could return in Mortal Kombat with a twist

Tan has also hinted that he could still return to the Mortal Kombat franchise despite Cole Young’s death in Mortal Kombat II. However, the actor suggested that any future appearance would likely involve him playing a completely different character.

Speaking about a possible return in Mortal Kombat III, Tan stated, “If I were to come back in Mortal Kombat III, it would be in a different way.” He also revealed that there have already been discussions behind the scenes about how that idea could work.

According to the actor, “We’ll figure that out as it goes, but there have been a lot of fans asking for a casting for different characters, and there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes talk about how we can make it work.”
