ComingSoon Senior Editor Brandon Schreur spoke to Miranda Cosgrove and Pierson Fodé about the new Netflix rom-com The Wrong Paris. Cosgrove discussed why she’s always wanted to do a rom-com, while Fodé touched on the importance of the meet-cute moment, getting to be “ridiculous” and “zany,” and more.
“A young woman (Miranda Cosgrove) joins a dating show thinking it’s in Paris, France, but it’s actually in Paris, Texas,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “She plots a way to get eliminated until her unexpected feelings for the bachelor (Pierson Fodé) complicate her plans.”
The Wrong Paris will be available to stream on Netflix on September 12, 2025.
Brandon Schreur: Miranda, I am such a fan of your past work. I grew up watching iCarly and can’t say enough about what that show meant to me growing up. But now you’re here, starring in this Netflix rom-com, The Wrong Paris. Can you tell me a little bit about what made you want to sign up for this project and how this character that you’re playing, Dawn, differs from some of the others you’ve played in the past?
Miranda Cosgrove: Sure. Yeah, well, I definitely was really excited to be a part of a rom-com because it’s my favorite genre. I love rom-coms. So, I was really excited to get to actually be in one. I’d always really wanted to do that and never really had the opportunity. So it was definitely fun trying something new.
I would say that the character, Dawn, I was really excited about because she’s definitely a lot tougher and meaner than most of the characters that I’ve played. I like that she has that edge to her. She’s definitely flawed, but she has a good heart. She was a fun character to play.
Yeah, totally. It’s fun to watch, too, I was into her whole arc. Pierson, I think you’re really great in this movie, too. One of the things I loved especially was one of those first scenes when the two of you meet for the first time at the bar without really knowing who each other is, and you have that dance. Can you tell me about filming that scene? I thought it was such an awesome moment. What was the experience of filming that like?
Pierson Fodé: It was a blast. I mean, I think we had done rehearsals with [producer Michael Damian] and [director Janeen Damian], right? For the dance sequence. Because Janeen is a dancer, she wanted it a very specific and a certain way. Also, we have to play to camera a certain way as we deliver lines, spin, and deliver lines again. But it was a blast. That opens the movie for both of our characters in a really fun way. It’s the meet-cute.
Cosgrove: It’s the most important part.
Fodé: That is the most important part of the movie, really. Well, except for the ending. You’ll find out what happens there. But, yeah, it was a blast. I think on that day, specifically, everyone was really locked in and having a really, really fun time.
Sure. A question for both of you. This is a true rom-com, meaning there’s a whole bunch of romance, but the comedy is very strong in the movie, too. I was laughing throughout this whole thing. What do you guys find it easier to slip into, as actors? Is doing the comedic bits, like the ridiculous thing with the obstacle course, easier and more fun? Or does having one another to bounce off of during the more romantic scenes come more naturally?
Cosgrove: For me, I love the ridiculous physical comedy and the crazy stuff like that. I love sketch comedy and stuff. One of my favorite parts of the movie is watching him wash the horse. I love the slow-motion stuff and just how silly, crazy, and campy that part is. So, yeah. But also, of course, I love getting to do the scenes that are a little more on the serious side. The falling-in-love moments; those are kind of the most important parts of a rom-com. But it’s just fun getting to be goofy and be crazy sometimes, too.
Fodé: Yeah, I think specifically with rom-coms, we’re allowed to get away with so much. You can be so out there and ridiculous. In a drama, you’re not allowed to be zany and do the obstacle moments, or the slo-mo washing a horse with your hair blowing in the wind. It’s so funny. So I really loved those moments.
The music choice during that scene was so good, too. I was cracking up.
Fodé: You should have heard, I think we were playing “Pony” on the day. It was quite funny.
Thanks to Miranda Cosgrove and Pierson Fodé for taking the time to discuss The Wrong Paris.
