Matt Damon Jokes These Ocean’s Co-Stars Would Be ‘Useless’ on The Odyssey

Matt Damon had a hilarious response to which Ocean’s Eleven castmate he would bring on The Odyssey. The actor revealed which co-star would fare the best on the epic journey and who would be “useless.” Damon’s quip comes just ahead of his return to the big screen as King Odysseus, in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the Greek epic.

Matt Damon is currently on the press run for his upcoming movie, The Odyssey. During an interview, Yahoo Entertainment asked, “Who from Ocean’s Eleven would Matt Damon take on The Odyssey?” Damon let out a chuckle before choosing Brad Pitt as his hypothetical crewmate.

“I guess Brad [Pitt] played Achilles,” Damon said, referring to Pitt’s performance as Achilles in 2004’s Troy. Achilles, in Homer’s Iliad, fought for the Greek fleet with Odysseus during the Trojan War. “So, he was there on the way there to the war. He was with us,” Damon joked. “So, he would have been helpful to have,” the actor added.

Damon then turned to George Clooney, who played Daniel Ocean, a mentor to Damon’s character in Ocean’s Eleven. “Clooney’s pretty useless, I would have to say,” Damon quipped, noting that he would not do well in the epic journey.

Damon also did not feel optimistic about Casey Affleck. However, The Martian star said he would “probably bring Don Cheadle,” who played Basher, the explosives expert, in the Ocean’s Eleven films.

Meanwhile, fans are excited to see Damon as the titular king of Ithaca in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic fantasy, The Odyssey. It is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic of the same name. The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and more. The movie arrives in theaters on July 17.
