Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving says the club remains in productive discussions with goaltender Anthony Stolarz on a potential contract extension.
Treliving told reporters Wednesday that negotiations are ongoing.
“We’re hopeful to get to a good outcome,” Treliving said when asked about the status of negotiations. “I’m confident, until proven otherwise, that we can find something that’ll work.”
Stolarz, 30, signed with Toronto last off-season and has quickly established himself as a reliable option in the crease. In 34 appearances, he posted an impressive 21-8-3 record with four shutouts. His strong play was reflected in his excellent statistical numbers: a 2.14 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.
The team has established a strong tandem with Stolarz and Joseph Woll, who is entering the first season of a three-year contract. Woll went 27-14-1 with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
Both goalies saw action in the playoffs with Stolarz getting the nod early, going 4-2 with a 2.19 goals-against average and .901 save percentage, before getting injured in the second round against the Florida Panthers. Woll went 3-4 in seven games while posting a 3.56 goals-against average and .866 save percentage.
Treliving said it would be nice if the Leafs can keep both goalies, considering how they played together last season.
“They played real well together,” Treliving said. “We were sitting up here last year, and that was a big question mark for our team. Neither one of them had played 40+ games, and I think in both their cases they both had a good year last year. I think in the league, there’s a handful of guys who are going to play 50-60 games, it’s more of a tandem league now. … they’re both real solid goaltenders, I’d like to see if we can keep them both here.”
