Paul Parker has urged his former club Manchester United to sell captain Bruno Fernandes when the January transfer window opens up.

Fernandes was strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer but ended up staying at Old Trafford.

It was reported in August that United could be tempted to sell the 31-year-old Portugal international if they receive a bid of more than £100m.

Parker feels Fernandes is not a good fit in Ruben Amorim’s system and would like to see him replaced by Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.

United, along with Manchester City, are said to be keen on Baleba with the Seagulls believed to want around £100m to let him leave the Amex.

‘I think Bruno in this team is a square peg trying to get into a round hole,’ Parker told mybettingsites.co.uk. ‘It’s a big problem.

‘The manager is treating Bruno like a man in a cape who will save Manchester United but is it to the detriment of United that Bruno is playing?

‘Can United get to where they need to be with Bruno? My answer is no. Kobbie Mainoo is the future.

‘United need legs in the midfield. I would like Kobbie with Carlos Baleba. Two good footballers.

‘One who can get up and down but has control and presence with the ball at his feet.

‘He glides and it’s great to watch him. He’s a really good player.

‘He’s clever, he’s got pace and his composure is great. United should have gone and got Baleba.’

‘Mason Mount shouldn’t be a starter’

Meanwhile, Parker has argued that United midfielder Mason Mount shouldn’t be a starter for the club at this moment in time.

‘In the game against Arsenal, he (Mount) played alright,’ Parker added. ‘He was back and forth.

‘He has energy and legs and if you can do that in this United team you will stand out.

‘It’s shocking that players that run and work hard is something we praise nowadays.

‘[But] Mount shouldn’t be starting at this time in my opinion. He should be someone that comes in for certain games but they should move on from him.’
