Law & Order: SVU Star Disappoints With Benson & Stabler Romance Update

Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit characters, Benson and Stabler, have long had a sexual and romantic tension between them, but the pair has not yet shared a kiss. Ice-T, their co-star, recently spoke about this in an interview and said that maybe their romance will never take off.

Ice-T says Law & Order: SVU creator may not want Benson and Stabler to ‘ever hook up’

It has been decades now that fans have been shipping Benson and Stabler, who appear to be perfect together. While fans have continued to demand something between them, things have remained strictly platonic between the pair on Law & Order: SVU.

Now, Ice-T spoke about this and said something that can be interpreted as a permanent roadblock to the pair’s possible romance. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ice-T said, “News blast, it’s not real! There are writers behind it…People always say, ‘You should have done this. You should have done this.’ I’m like, I can only say the words they put in my mouth. I can say it my way, I can give it my flavor. But we’re going for a ride along with them.”

He continued to explain, “Now, Mariska is a producer on the show, and she’s also directed a few. She’s not a writer, but she has a lot of power, so she’s kind of steering the boat,” indicating that if Harigatay wanted to, there could be some sparks flying between the pair. But he also added, “I don’t know if [producer] Dick Wolf wants them to ever hook up. Maybe he just wants to keep dangling that carrot. Keep the seasons coming in.”

So, if that is the case, this cycle of “could have beens” could go on for many seasons to come, arriving nowhere. But Ice-T himself doesn’t think this should be the case. He said, “I don’t know, that’s just the show. I don’t know what’s going on. But I’ve been telling them to get a room for a long time.”

The creators scrapped a recently planned kiss between the pair because it was not working. But on the positive side, Mariska Hargitay referred to Benson and Stabler as “soulmates, in a way” in a previous interview. This indicates that there may be a time in the future when they do end up together.

Anyhow, nothing is happening right away. But fans can still keep their hopes up for the future.
