Lanterns Midseason Trailer Throws Hal Jordan & John Stewart Into a Cosmic Mystery

The Lanterns midseason trailer teases a larger cosmic mystery involving Hal Jordan and John Stewart in the DCU series. HBO Max‘s grounded murder mystery show is approaching the final three episodes of its first season.

The midseason Lanterns trailer has made it clear that “the blackest night is yet to come.” The mystery regarding Hal Jordan’s murder is only going to get deep with a town full of suspects.

Following the fifth episode, ‘Lights Out,’ the DCU TV show is on track to wrap with its final three episodes.

What happens in Lanterns’ Midseason trailer?

The Lanterns midseason trailer opens with Hal and John meeting. John tells him, “All right, I’m listening.” Hal says, “I took the fall for what we did.”

“You didn’t take the fall, you fell and people got killed.” To this, Hal responds, “There’s more than one killer at this table.” The trailer then shows the very scene where John found Hal being really dead. “I never thought he’d actually die.”

Lanterns also teases Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion, who’s hardly interested in assisting John. “I can’t help you solve this murder. It’s bad optics.” John tells him, “You owe me.”

To this, Gardner makes it crystal clear why he doesn’t like Hal Jordan. “I asked him if he had any wisdom. You know what he said to me? Go climb a rope.”

John says, “Because you’re a gym teacher.” Gardner responds, “No, cuz he’s a s**t f**k. And I was an athletic director.”

The trailer also teases another meeting between John and Sinestro, played Ulrich Thomsen. Lanterns’ ensemble cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, and Laura Linney.

With the show being popular so far among fans, executive producer Damon Lindelof has also discussed the possibility of future seasons. In an interview with ScreenRant, he said, “If it’s successful and people love it, there’s a lot of runway to launch into future seasons. But I think Chris Mundy has already started a new writers’ room, figuring out what new stories could be for Lanterns.”

Lanterns Episode 6 premieres on HBO Max on Sept. 20, 2026.
