Jeremy Renner, widely known for playing Clint Barton / Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently discussed how it felt to work on the upcoming Knives Out 3 after surviving a major accident in 2023. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is the third entry in the Knives Out movie series, preceded by the 2019 feature of the same name and 2022’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Jeremy Renner opens up about returning to movies in Knives Out 3

In an interview at Variety‘s TIFF Studio alongside other members of the Wake Up Dead Man cast, Renner spoke about working on his first cinematic project since the accident. “It’s a lot of support, man,” the actor said. “It’s lovely to have it. There’s such a communion and camaraderie that happens, especially on a movie like this,” he added.

Renner, who portrays Dr. Nat Sharp in the movie, added, “This is not even really a movie to me, it’s more like a stage play. We’re always together, we’re always in each other’s faces, even when we’re acting. When you have 15 people on a camera, you spend a lot of time with them. It reminds me of doing a play. It feels good to be back and welcomed back to the job that I love, with really great people.”

In early 2023, the Mayor of Kingstown actor was run over by his more than 14,000-pound snowplow while trying to save his nephew. He sustained blunt chest trauma and over 30 broken bones and was admitted to a hospital. He later returned home and continued his journey toward full recovery.

The Wake Up Dead Man cast also includes Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, Josh O’Connor as Rev. Jud Duplenticy, Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix, Josh Brolin as Msgr. Jefferson Wicks, and Kerry Washington as Vera Draven.

The movie premiered at TIFF on September 6, 2025. It comes out in select theaters in November and on Netflix on December 12, 2025.
