At this point, John Turturro is more than a made man. He's long proven himself to be equally adept at blending comedy and drama, mixing magnetism with unease that leaves you uncertain when it's okay to laugh. He can be an audaciously scene-stealing lothario in The Big Lebowski or the painfully repressed voice of concern in Severance, his presence never diminished or forgotten when switching between film and television. This disquieting dexterity would have been perfect for one of the most truly unknowable films made in recent memory, Eyes Wide Shut, and Turturro came so close to getting a pivotal role in Stanley Kubrick's swan song. Unfortunately, Turturro somehow missed his shot at such an honor by...trying to be a regular person, which, as we all know, isn't how Stanley Kubrick rolled.
