Imagine that we are all part of a virtual simulation. It is part of the hypothesis that proposes that human encounters are artificial and we would be like characters in a video game in which reality is made up of essential units of information (the ‘theory of simulation,’ essentially). Well, this might sound like we’re explaining the plot of “The Matrix.” However, according to Elon Musk, it might be true, as Joe Rogan revealed on his podcast.
Speaking to Julian Lennon, the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and the son of John Lennon, the JRE host indulged in the conversation about us living in a simulation. The UFC commentator claimed that there is a possibility that nothing that we see is real, and when powerful people around us believe in this theory, then it seems to be convincing. In fact, Elon Musk has now turned Rogan into a believer in this theory already.
He said, “When it’s explained to you by brilliant people, it becomes hard to ignore the possibility that maybe they’re correct. For instance, Elon Musk mentioned that the odds of us not being in a simulation are in the billions.”
Joe Rogan further stated that Elon Musk’s success in life makes him more convinced of the theory. “Wouldn’t you think that, though, if you’re simultaneously running Tesla and a rocket company? He just seems like he’s in a simulation. You’re also the richest man in the world and you are also the number one Diablo player—it’s like he’s living in a simulation.”
To support the theory discussed on the podcast, Elon Musk also often posts about incidents that may make many feel like the simulation is either breaking down or providing a hint about its existence. It is worth noting that even astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson agrees that it is a possibility, claiming that there are 50-50 odds about the hypothesis being correct.

He even told NBC News MACH via email that he has no strong argument against it. But what are Elon Musk’s exact thoughts on the whole theory? Well, he did speak on it in an earlier edition of the Joe Rogan Experience.
Elon Musk’s makes a major claim on Joe Rogan’s podcast
On the Joe Rogan Experience episode #1169 with Elon Musk, the theory was introduced on the podcast. The Tesla CEO endorsed that probably all human beings are trapped in a pseudo-existence similar to the one postulated in the movie ‘The Matrix.’ The CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and the social platform X (formerly Twitter) have suggested the hypothesis that the planet, galaxies, and the entire universe are simulated systems.
He said, “If you assume any rate of improvement at all, games will eventually be indistinguishable from reality.” Musk further added that the odds that we are living in a simulation are highly likely. Well, in the age of the Metaverse and artificial intelligence (AI), Musk’s opinion is not surprising. However, it should be clarified that the simulation hypothesis is still speculation, and there is no conclusive evidence to support this theory at present.
In the same vein, both Alan Guth, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in the United States, and the guru of intelligent machines, Ray Kurzweil, suggest that maybe our entire universe is a science experiment of a high school student in another universe. But what do you think? Do you believe in this hypothesis? Let us know in the comments.
