Jimmy Kimmel Turns Guillermo’s DWTS Success Into a Pointed Donald Trump Jab

Jimmy Kimmel turned Guillermo Rodriguez’s Dancing With the Stars survival into a joke about President Donald Trump. The late-night host made the remark after Guillermo escaped another elimination despite receiving one of the competition’s lowest scores.

Guillermo, the longtime Jimmy Kimmel Live! sidekick, is competing in Season 35 alongside professional dance partner Witney Carson. Following the latest elimination results, Kimmel praised the fan support keeping Guillermo afloat before landing his punchline. He joked, “It’s so exciting, you’ve now won the popular vote more times than Donald Trump. You realize that?”

The joke is in reference to Guillermo’s continued survival through viewer voting. The Donald Trump reference comes from Kimmel’s comparison between the DWTS contestant’s audience support and presidential election results.

Guillermo’s fan support continues to outweigh the judges’ scores

Guillermo and Carson earned 12 out of 30 points during the September 22 episode. The pair performed a Paso Doble to Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” during Viral Hits Night.

The score placed them at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard alongside Giada De Laurentiis and Alan Bersten. However, Giada and Alan were eliminated after the judges’ scores were combined with viewer votes.

The result marked Guillermo’s second straight week near the bottom of the leaderboard. He previously received 10 out of 30 points during the September 15 premiere.

His latest score still represented a two-point improvement from his opening performance. Carson also mentioned the pair is “slowly” winning over the judges after their difficult start.

Guillermo’s run has therefore continued despite his low placement on the judges’ board. Audience votes have played a very big role in keeping him on the show.

The Season 35 cast now moves into its next round of performances. Guillermo and Carson will return as the competition continues next week on ABC and Disney+.
