DCU boss James Gunn recently shared his love and fascination for crows on Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with James Gunn, where he also revealed insightful tidbits about crows and their intelligence while speaking with Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, and Joel Kinnaman.

The latest episode of Peacemaker featured Vigilante, being his usual quirky self, talking about crows and how fascinating he finds them. This segment is seemingly inspired by James Gunn himself. The director said in the podcast that he loved animals, but he loved crows even more.

He went on to share how he watches videos of crows. He also discussed several fascinating facts about the birds, which are much more intelligent than they appear to be. “I like crows even more than Vigilante does,” Gunn said on the podcast. He then shared a few remarkable things that crows can do.

Sharing the first fact, Gunn said, “They are smarter than chimpanzees…They can make tools that, like, they can think, like, three steps ahead of themselves…Yeah, they plan. …no primate besides humans can do. Right.” He also referred to online videos of crows performing these tasks.

Gunn emphasized the birds’ abilities to remember faces and even inform other crows about humans they dislike. “You know, they remember your face forever, like, they’ve done wonderful studies, where, like, a guy will wear a Nixon mask and be mean to a crow, and they will then tell others,” Gunn explained.

He further described crows in England, which could not crack open a certain kind of nut. Instead, they dropped them at traffic signals and used passing cars to break them open.

This all shows how deeply passionate Gunn is about crows. Peacemaker’s latest episode includes details about crows that clearly come from Gunn himself.
