The US president was criticised after posting two bizarre images on his Truth Social platform.
In one, a giant Trump is seen peering over mountains and looking down on the island with the message ‘Hello Greenland’.
Despite signing a deal with Greenland and Denmark that keeps Greenland under Danish sovereignty and respects its right to self-determination, Trump just posted this.

A second image shows Trump being greeted by a group of penguins in red, white and blue jumpers and bobble hats while carrying American flags.

— Republicans against Trump (@RpsAgainstTrump) October 5, 2026His posts come come just weeks after Trump claimed to have struck a deal with Denmark – which has sovereignty over Greenland – which would give the US “permanent control of security” of the territory.
Trump sent shockwaves around the world last year when he claimed Greenland should be controlled by the States.
He insisted its Arctic location was essential for defence against rivals like China and India – and expressed interest in the island’s mineral wealth.
Trump threatened to take it by force, even though the semi-autonomous territory belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark.
Under the deal the US struck with Denmark last month, no US enemy would be able to maintain a military presence on the Arctic island or “make sensitive investments in Greenland without our express written approval”.
However, his Truth Social posts suggested he has not given up his ambitions of controlling Greenland himself.
His posts drew criticism from other social media users.
