Marshals wrapped up its freshman season in its usual frantic style, and left its characters in something of an uncomfortable spot, while Cal’s storyline is left especially precarious. Shortly before the finale, he reveals that he has a Pancoast tumor, a serious form of lung cancer, and has not yet settled on treatment. In the closing stretch, Cal and Belle discover a murdered ranch hand and see Jeb, Weaver’s foreman, fleeing. They are then ambushed. Not great timing.
