Emma Frost Gets the Wildest X-Men Crossover After Samara Weaving’s MCU Casting

Marvel has announced an unlikely comic book pairing that sees the X-Men’s diamond-skinned telepath teaming up with an unexpected ally. The news comes just days after reports surfaced that Samara Weaving is in talks to play Emma Frost in the upcoming X-Men film.

The crossover appears in The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1, a special issue celebrating 50 years of The Muppet Show. Written by Chip Zdarsky alongside a team of creators, the story throws Marvel heroes into the chaotic world of Kermit and friends.

The plot kicks off when Rowlf the Dog is kidnapped by the villain Mojo, prompting an unlikely rescue squad to assemble. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Emma Frost must work together to save him. Elsewhere in the issue, Dr Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker meddle with gamma rays and Pym Particles, with predictably disastrous results.

Zdarsky described writing the Muppets as an instinctual process. “It’s an incredibly unique feeling to write for characters who’ve just always been a part of your life,” he told CBR. “The Muppets are so distinct, it feels very much like you’re just channeling the voices.” He confirmed the crossover is multiversal in nature, joking that otherwise “we’d need to immediately make Spidey and Fozzie roommates.”

Annie Wu has illustrated a special Muppet variant cover for X-Men United #7 featuring Emma Frost alongside Miss Piggy. Marvel described the pair as a “glamorous—and formidable—duo.” It seems fitting for two characters who share a love of power, fashion, and getting what they want.

The timing aligns neatly with Weaving’s reported casting. Director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige landed on the actor after meeting with several candidates. Frost, a telepathic mutant who debuted in 1980s X-Men comics, evolved from supervillain to key team member over the decades. January Jones last played her on screen in 2011.
