Death of girl, 2, treated as ‘unexplained’ after ‘welfare concerns’

A little girl has died after the alarm was raised over concerns for the welfare of a child in North Yorkshire.

The toddler passed away in the hospital after being rushed there from an address in Thornaby near Middlesbrough.

The alarm was raised yesterday at about 4.20pm following welfare concerns on Hartington Close.

She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Detectives have launched an investigation, and her death is being treated as ‘unexplained.’

Footage shows forensics teams and detectives swarming a semi-detached property.

A 25-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the girl’s death.

They are being questioned.

Cleveland Police said: ‘Officers remain in the Hartington Close area of Thornaby conducting enquiries into the death of a young child.

‘Two people are being questioned in connection with her death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

‘Our thoughts remain with the child’s family at this extremely difficult time.

‘This remains a live investigation and to greatly assist our ongoing enquiries, we would urge people not to speculate or to name online any person they believe may be involved.’
