A man has been arrested after a Sikh woman was raped in a ‘racially motivated’ attack last week, police have said.
The suspect, in his 30s, was detained tonight and remains in custody on suspicion of rape following enquiries into the incident in Oldbury, West Midlands.
Police are continuing to support the woman who is entitled to anonymity as an alleged victim of a sexual assault.
The victim, in her 20s, was on her way to work when she was attacked by two white men.
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill said: ‘This is a significant development in the investigation and we want to thank the community for their continuing support.

‘The investigation remains on-going and we would urge people not to speculate as we work to identify and trace all those who may have been involved.’
In a statement released by charity Sikh Youth UK, the victim said she would not ‘wish this on anyone’ and thanked her family and members of the community for their support.
She said: ‘All I was doing was going about my day on my way to work, and what has happened has deeply affected us.
‘Through it all, my family has been my rock, and my community has stood strong behind me.’
