Bold & Beautiful’s Scott Clifton on What He Hates Most About Liam

Scott Clifton, who plays Liam Spencer, spoke his mind about his character’s nature in The Bold and the Beautiful. He admitted that there are certain aspects of his character that he hates and that it’s beginning to look “unattractive.”

In a recent podcast, Scott Clifton joined hosts Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart on their show Soapy to explore the drama behind the soap operas. Clifton spoke about his personal and professional lives. Among the many discussions the trio had on the episode, Clifton took the opportunity to talk about his character, Liam, from The Bold and the Beautiful.

When Budig, who plays Taylor Hayes on the show, asks Clifton, “How do you feel about like bouncing between the two [Hope Logan and Steffy Forrester] of them?”

Clifton responds by admitting, “We have a job to do, but I hate that. But that doesn’t mean I won’t do it.”

The 40-year-old actor continued saying, “I think that we’re on the precipice with soaps, it’s like adapt or die, right?”. Clifton further added, “Culturally, I think, 20, 30 years ago, it was sexy and attractive for a man to be torn between two women who were fawning over him and him having to go back and forth. It was the Ridge, Brooke, and Taylor thing.”

“That was like soap bread and butter for a really long time,” the actor added. “But I don’t think we live in that world anymore. We’re at a place now where that’s not only not attractive but beginning to be unattractive.”

“That doesn’t mean that you still can’t play the story,” the General Hospital star reiterated. “It just means when I’m playing Liam, I’m recognizing that I’m not playing the hero, I’m playing that a—— that we all know and tolerate, but we wish that he treated women better.”

Clifton concluded by admitting that although it’s entertaining to play that role, he would never be friends with Liam in real life.
