Spider-Man 4 could revisit Peter Parker’s family history in an unexpected way. With Bruce Banner rumored to play a key role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel could adapt a comic book storyline that connects Hulk to the tragedy surrounding Peter’s parents.

Spider-Man 4 could follow Marvel by making Hulk responsible for Peter’s parents’ deaths

In Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, the writers reimagined Richard Parker as a biologist. He and Mary Parker died when Bruce Banner first transformed into the Hulk. This storyline differed from earlier versions that showed the Parkers as government agents killed in a plane crash.

In Ultimate Origins, a prequel series, Bendis and Butch Guice placed Richard on a scientific team with Hank Pym, Franklin Storm, and Bruce Banner. The group worked to recreate Project Rebirth. Banner tested Nick Fury’s blood, transformed into the Hulk, and destroyed the facility.

Hank Pym warned of the danger, but Richard, along with Mary and their newborn Peter, who were visiting Richard, stayed inside. They died in the destruction. Fury later discovered the infant Peter, held him, and promised he would not remember the tragedy. This contradicted the accounts Fury gave Peter years later about his parents’ deaths.

In the past, scooper Alex Perez of the Cosmic Circus hinted that Bruce Banner would know “someone related to Peter.” While the rumor needs to be taken with a grain of salt, the Ultimate Spider-Man storyline offers a sad connection between Hulk and Peter Parker that the MCU could draw from.

In the comics, Richard Parker’s research on biological cures helped create Peter’s web fluid. His work also tied into Mister Negative’s weaponized Devil’s Breath project. These details support theories that the MCU might present the Parkers as scientists who worked with Banner.

While things may not unfold in the same way as Ultimate Spider-Man or any other comic, the idea of the Parkers being scientists who are connected to Bruce Banner could be explored in the MCU.

Spider-Man is said to battle an angry Hulk at some point in Brand New Day. Their sudden battle would seem random to many, as until now, they haven’t really crossed paths in the MCU. But a backstory of Peter discovering that a Hulk incident, or perhaps a Bruce Banner experiment, led to Richard and Mary Parker’s deaths, would offer a stronger and more natural connection to their stories. It’ll also answer questions about who Richard and Mary Parker were in the MCU.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
