Illegal IPL Streaming: Tamannaah Bhatia, Sanjay Dutt, over 20 other influencers to face questioning

Actress Tamannaah Bhatia and actor Sanjay Dutt have been linked to an illegal streaming case related to the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned Tamannaah as a witness for questioning. She is required to appear on April 29. Sanjay Dutt's name also surfaced in connection with the case, but he couldn't attend the earlier questioning due to his busy schedule.

Tamannaah Bhatia to to face questioning in IPL 2023 illegal streaming case

The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has called Tamannaah Bhatia to investigate her involvement in the illegal streaming of IPL 2023 matches on the Fairplay App. Viacom18 claims that this unauthorized streaming caused them significant financial losses. Actor Sanjay Dutt was also summoned earlier but requested a new date for recording his statement. He cited being out of India on the initial date of questioning. It is said that both Tamannaah and Sanjay allegedly endorsed FairPlay's subsidiary app associated with the Mahadev betting platform. Not just these two actor but over 20 influencers who promoted the FairPlay app on various platforms may also be summoned to provide statements.

In September 2023, Viacom18 filed an FIR against FairPlay for illegally streaming IPL matches despite Viacom18 holding the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for IPL streaming. The unauthorized streaming resulted in a loss of over Rs 100 crore for Viacom18. As part of the investigation, several celebrities, including Badshah, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Tamannaah, were questioned. Additionally, an employee of the betting app was arrested in December 2023.
