DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has opened up about the connection between the upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow and John Cena’s Peacemaker Season 2. This comes after David Corenswet recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo of him and Cena on the set of the HBO Max show’s latest installment.
What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow and Peacemaker?
On Threads, while addressing a fan’s concern about the DC Universe projects’ overall continuity, Gunn confirmed that Man of Tomorrow is “very, very connected” to Peacemaker Season 2. However, the filmmaker stressed that fans can still watch each DCU project by itself, as they aren’t required to watch all shows and movies to keep up with each project’s story or the franchise’s overall continuity.

This comes after Gunn previously described Peacemaker Season 2 as a prequel to the Superman sequel. And given Corenswet and Cena’s recently released photo, it definitely wouldn’t be a surprise if the Man of Steel does appear in the show.
Man of Tomorrow will once again be directed by Gunn, based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It will feature the return of David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. At the moment, it’s still unclear which cast members from the first installment would also be returning for the sequel. Following the project’s official announcement, rumors started circulating online about its potential cast members and plot. Recent reports suggested that Jason Momoa might appear as Lobo, along with Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.
DC Studios’ next Superman movie will officially arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027.
