Human remains found days after man admitted murdering 55-year-old woman

Police have found human remains days after a man admitted murdering a woman who disappeared in January.

Julie Buckley, 55, had last been seen at a supermarket near Christchurch, Cambridgeshire, on January 28.

She was reported missing in early February, and when police entered her home on the 13th of that month they found her blood around the property.

Karl Hutchings, 48, was arrested later that day and charged with Julie’s murder soon after.

On Monday he pleaded guilty to murder at Cambridge crown court, but at the time of his plea her body had not been found.

Now Cambridgeshire Police say they have found human remains in a field after Hutchings’ lawyers shared the location of a potential burial site.

The remains were found in a field off Blue Lane in Wimblingdon, less than 10 miles from the village where Julie lived, and the site has been cordoned off with the scene likely to remain in place for a week.

Julie’s family have been told about the discovery, and a post-mortem examination is set to take place next week.

The remains have not yet been formally identified.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Stott said: ‘Julie’s family have been made aware of this significant update and are being supported by specially trained officers.’

Chief Insp Stott previously said he hoped Hutchings would ‘tell us where he has left her (Ms Buckley’s) body, so she can be laid to rest with dignity’.

Police believe Hutchings killed Julie on January 30, and went on to use her bank cards and sell her belongings.

He is set to be sentenced on October 24.
