HBO has shared the first official photo from the Harry Potter TV show.

What is shown in the first Harry Potter TV show photo?

Harry, played by Dominic McLaughlin, is sporting his Gryffindor cloak with his name and number as he heads to the Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch in a photo shared to social media. You can see the bottom of Harry’s broomstick on his right side. The banners for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff are seen in the distance.

A caption on the shared post reads “Tomorrow,” with a signature lightning bolt emoji. HBO did not reveal the specifics of what to expect tomorrow, but it’s certainly a teaser of more to come. Whether that means another photo or some footage is unknown.

HBO’s television adaptation of Harry Potter is currently filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K.

Besides McLaughlin, Harry Potter’s main cast includes Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

The casting of Lord Voldemort remains one of the show’s biggest mysteries. Ralph Fiennes played the character in the movies, but he is not expected to return for the series. Several rumored names linked to the villain include Cillian Murphy, Tilda Swinton, and Paul Bettany. It’s unknown if HBO will announce Voldemort’s casting or keep it a secret.

Executive producer Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner of the Harry Potter series. Director Mark Mylod, who worked with Gardiner on Succession, is also an executive producer alongside J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. Oscar winner Hans Zimmer will compose the score.

HBO has described the series as “a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling.” Each season will likely cover one of Rowling’s Harry Potter novels, with plans to adapt all seven books for television.

Harry Potter will premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
