Hawkman Gets a Huge Upgrade in DC’s New Justice League Story

A major development is coming to DC’s Absolute Universe. A classic hero is preparing to join the ranks of the Justice League. The character will debut in October’s Absolute Evil #1. This one-shot expands the lineup of reimagined icons within this darker continuity.

Absolute Evil #1 confirms Hawkman joining the Justice League

Al Ewing writes the one-shot, with Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi providing the art. DC will release it on October 1, 2025. Cover art surveillance photos first teased Hawkman’s inclusion. DC later confirmed at Rose City Comic Con 2025 that he will officially appear alongside Green Arrow.

Absolute Evil #1 will spotlight the villains of the Absolute Universe, including Ra’s al Ghul, Veronica Cale, Hector Hammond, Elenore Thawne, and the Joker. DC described the issue as featuring “the introduction of not one but two major Absolute characters who will change the course of the Absolute Universe in its second year, and is unmissable for all fans of this red-hot publishing line!” This confirms Hawkman as the second character in addition to Green Arrow.

The Absolute Universe first launched under DC’s All In initiative. It reimagines heroes and villains in a continuity created in Darkseid’s image. Earlier stories, such as Absolute Wonder Woman, hinted at Aquaman’s appearance.

Hawkman’s addition now builds momentum toward the possible formation of an Absolute Justice League. DC also highlighted the historic connection between Hawkman and Green Arrow. The two characters have been closely linked throughout DC Comics history.

At the Rose City Comic Con panel, DC referred to Hawkman and Green Arrow as “a couple of new Absolute heroes — or maybe anti-heroes,” reflecting the darker nature of the Absolute Universe (via The Popverse).

DC confirmed Green Arrow will receive his own series, written by Pornsak Pichetshote with art by Rafael Alburquerque. The publisher has not announced a series for Hawkman. The October slate will feature Absolute Superman #12, Absolute Green Lantern #7, Absolute Flash #8, Absolute Wonder Woman #13, and Absolute Batman 2025 Annual #1.
