Though the Guardians of the Galaxy have been part of Marvel Comics lore since 1969, the version of the team that the public is familiar with hasn’t been around nearly as long. The modern incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy, led by Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, was formed in 2008 following the Annihilation: Conquest storyline. This is the team that was adapted first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Chris Pratt being cast as Star-Lord.
