If you’ve ever been to Westfield Stratford City, you’ll likely have been lured to a kiosk on the ground floor by the aroma of cinnamon and sugar.

Behind the glass counter were rows of fluffy cinnamon buns, smothered in gooey icing and topped with everything from Oreo to Biscoff and Caramel Pecans.

We’re talking, of course, about Cinnabon, a bakery chain from the US.

The business first set up shop in the UK in December 2020 and went on to launch almost 20 sites nationwide by 2023, with initial plans for 150 locations.

However, they’ve lost a few over the years, most recently having just 12 stores in areas such as London, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Chester and Derby.

Earlier this week, customers discovered several of these had mysteriously closed without warning and the company website had also gone down.

Is Cinnabon closing in the UK?

For all those wondering what’s been going on, we now have the answer – and we’re sorry to say, it’s not good news.

EG On the Move, who partnered with Cinnabon to bring the chain to the UK, has revealed they’re closing all remaining sites.

A spokesperson for EG On the Move told Metro: ‘EG On The Move has made the strategic decision to close all Cinnabon locations operated in the UK.

‘This was not a decision taken lightly, but it reflects the strategic shift to focus on our core convenience retail business.

‘This decision aligns with our wider business strategy to focus on areas where we can deliver the greatest value to our customers.’

They added: ‘We extend our sincere thanks to our team members for their dedication, to the Cinnabon brand team for their ongoing partnership, and to our customers for their loyalty and support.

‘EG On The Move remains committed to providing exceptional food and retail experiences across our 150-site network, and we will continue to invest in evolving our offerings to meet changing customer needs.’

Fans of the brand have previously hailed the food at Cinnabon as ‘gorgeous’, ‘the best’ and ‘delicious’, so it’s likely many will be disappointed to say goodbye to the chain.

Some have already been sharing their upset over this news, with TikTok user @oscx3 claiming they are ‘not gonna recover’ from the loss.

While you won’t be able to enjoy this American treat any longer, a number of other fast food brands from the USA have announced they’ll be coming across the pond soon.

Raising Cane’s has confirmed its going to launch its flagship UK restaurant in London in late 2026.

Captain D’s, a seafood chain dubbed the ‘McDonald’s of the sea’ is opening its first location in Kent and Chick-fil-A is also confirming plans for more sites across the UK, in places like London and Leeds.

If that weren’t enough, Dave’s Hot Chicken, America’s fastest-growing chain is expanding across the UK, with a staggering 57 sites planned across the country.
